I also couldn’t put it down until it was finished. What a great read! I can’t recommend it enough. I liked the movie so much that I bought the book, Breaking Night, which tells more of Liz’s story. It tells the story of the amazing arc of Liz Murray, beautifully portrayed by Thora Birch, a New York child of addicted parents, who pulls herself up by the proverbial bootstraps and rises above a mountain of obstacles – poverty, hunger, a horrifying stay in a facility for “troubled” children where she is sent simply for having been a truant from school, and a dying mother – to first get accepted at a great high school, and then to win a scholarship to Harvard. One of my favorite TV movies of all time is HOMELESS TO HARVARD.
